Understanding Brain Tumors & Meningiomas
Share
Introduction
Every May, we recognize Brain Tumor Awareness Month — a time to shine a light on the strength, hope, and perseverance of those impacted by brain tumors, including meningiomas. Whether you're here to learn, support, or empower, every step toward awareness makes a difference. As part of our “Beauty with a Purpose” series, Honey Babe Hair is proud to stand with fighters, survivors, and loved ones during this important month.
What Are Brain Tumors?
A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of cells in or around the brain. These tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous), and their impact varies based on size, location, and type.
Common symptoms include:
- Persistent headaches
- Changes in vision
- Seizures
- Memory problems
- Difficulty balancing
Awareness of these symptoms can lead to earlier diagnoses, which improves treatment outcomes.
What Is a Meningioma?
A meningioma is the most common type of primary brain tumor. It forms in the meninges, the protective layers surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
- Most meningiomas are benign, but they can still cause significant health issues.
- They are more common in women and often diagnosed between ages 40-70.
Common signs include:
- Blurred vision
- Hearing loss
- Weakness in limbs
- Cognitive or personality changes
Why Awareness Matters
Brain tumors don't discriminate — they can affect people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. However, early detection greatly improves the chances for successful treatment.
By spreading knowledge, encouraging early medical attention, and supporting research, we can make a difference.
How Beauty Can Empower
For those undergoing treatment, changes in appearance (like hair loss) can be emotional.
That’s where the beauty industry comes in — offering support through wigs, scalp care, and a reminder that beauty shines from within, no matter the journey.
